Q: HELP! I am losing a lot of hair lately. I’ve read hormones can be related to this – what do I do???
A: There may be several reasons women notice hair loss or thinning. Balancing hormones is, indeed, a very big component of getting to the “root” of the problem. You would need to have your estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA and thyroid levels all checked. The vast majority of women do respond to hormone balancing to help stop hair loss and start re-growth of new hair. However; keep in mind there are other factors too that can contribute to hair loss, like stress and genetic male-pattern-type loss. In any situation a good, thorough evaluation from your doctor or provider is the best place to start.
