What is Menopause?
Menopause is the end of menstruation and fertility. Your body produces less estrogen, progesterone and testosterone as your ovaries atrophy. Other hormones that decline at this age include DHEA, thyroid and growth hormone.
All of these hormones are very important and help our bodies to function optimally. When we start losing these hormones, it’s very apparent that our sense of well-being is suffering and our body is no longer functioning like it used to. Because of the symptoms menopause causes and other non-hormonal aging factors complicating the picture, women often become irritable, depressed and less productive at work.
Overall quality of life is reduced. Women who have never had a tendency to be depressed are often offered antidepressants. These symptoms may be incredibly disruptive to everyday life; however they can be relieved fairly quickly with appropriate bio-identical hormone therapy.
Menopause, often referred to as the “change of life”, affects most women in their early 50’s, although some may experience it in their late 40’s or late 50’s. Some women start to notice these symptoms in the Perimenopause time before they have truly hit full blown menopause. A total hysterectomy, done for medical reasons, brings menopause on immediately at any age.
We complete a thorough evaluation which may include a comprehensive set of blood tests, exam, medical history and a complete assessment of health risks and symptoms. Based on this assessment we customize a hormone therapy program for each individual patient that may include: safer preparations of estrogen, progesterone and other hormones such as DHEA, testosterone, thyroid and optimization of growth hormone.
Patients are then monitored to maintain an optimal balance. Other supplements are included as needed to further reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, blood clots dementia, osteoporosis and cancer. Our treatment program can help you live a happier, healthier life before and after menopause. Live your life to the fullest and reclaim body and your health. “You have been so helpful in nearly eliminating my hot flashes, memory lapses and improving my mood since my hysterctomy a year ago. I am amazed at how much the therapies have helped. I was running at about 50% of my “thinking process”, had an average of 25 “drenching” hot flashes per day and could not remember things! That in itself was depressing but I felt “down” much of the time anyway. I have been feeling good for quite a few months now, have an occasional hot flash and my brain is working again! I feel so much better. Thank you again for all that you have done! I feel like I have my life back!”
