Am I a good candidate for a liquid lift?

Am I a good candidate for a liquid lift?

The term “liquid lift” refers to using a combination of injectables to rejuvenate the face. At some point in time, lines and wrinkles trouble us all.

By providing volume and a subtle lift, a liquid lift can literally plump up lines and erase wrinkles before your eyes. Injectables can be an excellent option to combat gravity as we age.

It is not a replacement for surgery, but when done correctly, a liquid lift can give excellent results with minimal downtime. Think of injectables (Botox Cosmetic and Dysport) and fillers (Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane) as Wrinkle Relaxers, Wrinkle Erasers and Line Preventers.

These treatments provide a quick fix and instant makeover. In order to maintain the results, injections every 3 – 6 months are common for Botox and Dysport and 6 – 12 months for fillers. If you stay on top of your maintenance protocol you don’t have to start from scratch at each session – we build on what is already there.

What can a Liquid Lift Do?

  • Erase lines
  • Define the cheeks
  • Balance the chin
  • Even out jowls
  • Increase volume

What Can a Liquid Lift Not Do?

  • Eliminate excess skin
  • Provide long-term results
  • Tighten skin

How is the treatment done?

After a consultation with our Injection Nurse you will receive advice on which combination of injectables will give you the most natural results. Often, injections can be performed that same day depending upon the treatment plan. Injectables typically take 15-45 minutes. In general, there is minimal downtime. There may be redness around the injection site that resolves in about an hour. Depending upon the type of injection, mild swelling may occur that could last a couple days. As with any injection there is also a chance of bruising that can last up to a week but usually can be covered by makeup.

Should my skin “peel” after having a chemical peel treatment?

Should my skin “peel” after having a chemical peel treatment?

The skin does not need to “physically” peel in order to experience the benefit of a chemical peel.

Everyone’s experience will be unique and different.

Generally, healthy skin has less visible exfoliation. Exfoliation often takes place at the cellular level and is not always apparent to the naked eye. Conversely, some patients’ skin is so impacted that it can take a few peels to loosen dead cells enough to allow them to shed. Typically, these patients will see little or no peeling initially, and then see sloughing after a few treatments.

Peeling happens by a combination of high acid percentage and low pH level. As the peel is applied to the skin, the barrier is opened and the acids “breaking down” the “mortar”/lipids that hold together the “bricks”/epidermal skin cells. A lower pH level in the peel formula means the peel will penetrate deeper into the skin to induce regeneration at the basal cellular level rather than on the skin surface – which means less visible peeling.

Cell turnover is stimulated by the penetration of the acid, which causes skin injury. As it penetrates it loosens the lipid bonds in the outer layer of skin to induce peeling at surface level and cell regeneration in the lower layers.

The tighter, firmer feeling in the skin after the peel is evidence that a peel has penetrated and is working deeply, even though you may not experience visible peeling.

Generally, a higher pH level coupled with a lower peel percentage means that we are stimulating a gentler cell turnover processes while minimizing stratum corneum barrier damage, allowing faster repair.

We offer great “lunch-time” peels starting around $65 that involve little to if any downtime. If you are looking to improve your skin clarity and refreshing your skin contact us to see what peel would be the best for you. Our peels are even good for people with sensitive skin!

Winterize Your Skin

Winterize Your Skin

Winter can be a tough time for your skin.

The cold air and wind outside in addition to the heat inside is very drying for your skin.

Now is a good time to winterize your skin!

It is important to hydrate your skin from the inside out:

  • Drink plenty of water, green tea and eat your veggies. Veggies are loaded with water. Carry a water bottle around with you and sip all day. Not a fan of water? Try Infusing it with fruit or cucumbers and mint for a yummy taste! As a bonus, drinking enough water, green tea and eating veggies will keep you full longer and keep off those winter pounds we all vow to lose on New Year’s day.
  • Take fish oil and flax seed oil supplements to help to keep your skin moist. Fish oil and flax seed oil contain essential fatty acids which can help to keep skin hydrated and protected from the damaging effects of the environment.
  • Make your own at home spa to winterize your skin. Try an Oatmeal bath. Oats contain avenanthramides which fight inflammation and redness. Set the mood by lighting candles and turning on soft music. Grind oats in a blender and sprinkle into the water as your tub fills up and soak for at least 15 minutes. Make sure your water is not too hot. Drink your green tea while soaking. Pat dry your skin, do not rub it with towel. Apply moisturizer directly out of the tub while skin is still moist so it absorbs better.

If you are looking for a great moisturizer for to combat the cold and wind this winter, try SHEALD Recovery Balm by iS Clinical Skincare. It even works great for your hands!

Is it normal for my eyelashes to thin as I age?

Is it normal for my eyelashes to thin as I age?

Yes, it is normal for your eyelashes to thin as you age.

Your eyelashes grow in four different stages: growth, resting, shedding and re-growth. Your lashes continuously cycle through these stages.

As we age, eyelash follicles (the openings in the skin through which the lash grows) can slow or stop producing new lashes altogether. The good news is that Latisse can help grow your lashes grow fuller and longer by stimulating the cells that have slowed or stopped producing.

Latisse solution works gradually. While you may start seeing longer lashes after 4 weeks, to reach maximum length, fullness, and darkness, you must use Latisee every day for 16 weeks.

On average, this is what you can expect:

  • At week 4: You may start to see longer lashes
  • At week 8: You may start to see fuller and darker lashes
  • At week 16: FULL dramatic results
