The skin does not need to “physically” peel in order to experience the benefit of a chemical peel.
Everyone’s experience will be unique and different.
Generally, healthy skin has less visible exfoliation. Exfoliation often takes place at the cellular level and is not always apparent to the naked eye. Conversely, some patients’ skin is so impacted that it can take a few peels to loosen dead cells enough to allow them to shed. Typically, these patients will see little or no peeling initially, and then see sloughing after a few treatments.
Peeling happens by a combination of high acid percentage and low pH level. As the peel is applied to the skin, the barrier is opened and the acids “breaking down” the “mortar”/lipids that hold together the “bricks”/epidermal skin cells. A lower pH level in the peel formula means the peel will penetrate deeper into the skin to induce regeneration at the basal cellular level rather than on the skin surface – which means less visible peeling.
Cell turnover is stimulated by the penetration of the acid, which causes skin injury. As it penetrates it loosens the lipid bonds in the outer layer of skin to induce peeling at surface level and cell regeneration in the lower layers.
The tighter, firmer feeling in the skin after the peel is evidence that a peel has penetrated and is working deeply, even though you may not experience visible peeling.
Generally, a higher pH level coupled with a lower peel percentage means that we are stimulating a gentler cell turnover processes while minimizing stratum corneum barrier damage, allowing faster repair.
We offer great “lunch-time” peels starting around $65 that involve little to if any downtime. If you are looking to improve your skin clarity and refreshing your skin contact us to see what peel would be the best for you. Our peels are even good for people with sensitive skin!

Here's an easy solution to help you switch gears after all of the holiday sweets and treats to get back to eating healthy!
I found myself craving peanut butter blossoms so I whipped up a batch of raw cookie dough protein bars. I even used some dark chocolate I got for a gift! I usually end up eating mine with a spoon right out of the container when I need a treat. You can feel good about eating these “treats” as they are high in protein and are free from processed sugar. Ingredients:
- 1 cup Almond Meal
- 1-2 scoops Cookie Dough Protein powder
- 1/2 cup nut butter (I used ¼ cup Almond butter and ¼ cup Cashew butter)
- 1/4 cup Pure Maple Syrup
- 1 square Intense Dark 72% Cacao Chiradelli Bite-Sized Bar or 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Combine Almond Meal, nut butter, syrup in food processor and blend until smooth
- Add in chocolate bar for an even consistency or stir in chips
- Transfer “dough” to another container
- Chill in fridge until cold
Give this healthy treat a try! Let us know the modifications you made to the recipe. There can be so many different combinations to try for example, use honey or agave instead of syrup, add in whole oats, use different kinds of nut butter, etc. Enjoy! Lisa @Innovative Directions in Health
