Why is a Cardio Reactive Protein blood test important?

Cardio Reactive Protein or C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a biomarker that reflects the presence of inflammation in the body. The level of CRP can be measured in your blood and increases when there is inflammation in your body.

This inflammation can weaken blood vessels and cause cholesterol plaques to loosen and create blockages. It has been referred to as “the match that lights the cardiovascular fire”. High levels of CRP are associated with the risk of developing cardiovascular disease; i.e. heart attack or stroke.

If you have increased cardiac risk, consider asking your physician to test your C-reactive protein (CRP) or have your level tested at your next appointment with Dr. Sinda.
